Realty Tech Talk

On Monday, January 4th I attended my first full Virtual RE bar camp (#VREBC) organized by Real Estate Tomato (Jim Cronin and company). I was able to only partially attend the first one back in November but I got all of this! A big shout out to the folks at the Tomato for putting together a fantastic event and all the speakers (yes they were 28, but one could only get 7). Wow! Phenomenal and Kick Ass are the words that come to mind in describing this event...

The only downside is I had to choose one session from four at any given time and I am sure the others were very good (based on the back channel talk on Twitter) so am really hoping the Tomato folks have the recording of the sessions. You can get all the tweets from the various sessions here - VREBC tweets

A list of the sessions I attended:

1. 9:15AM - Flickr - The Last Truly Social, Social Network by Theresa Boardman (St. Paul Real Estate Blog)

2. 10:15AM - Twitter Essentials for 2010 by Nicole and Reggie Nicolay (Real Estate Technology Blog)

3. 11:15AM - Advanced Facebook - How to Use Facebook to Dominate Your Local Real Estate Market (and get MORE closings) by Ross Hair

4. 12:15PM - Social Media Mainstream: Augmented Reality and More by Stefan Swanepoel

5. 1:15PM - Mortgage Professionals - Learn 7 Strategies For Connecting With Agents Online Without Looking Like A Stalker by Mark Madsen

6. 2:15PM - How To Leverage The Power of Social Media In Real Estate by Jonathan Rivera

7. 3:15PM - Out of the Office and on to the Streets: 15 Ways to Make Your Marketing Mobile by Joel Burslem

By the end it was getting to the information overload state but I made it through with some learning from each of the sessions I attended. And as I would try to do with any training session, it comes down to "Use it or lose it". Another way to look at is, DMA for Do, Measure and Adjust.

Just with anything new you attempt to do, there are things that are going to work and some that aren't and you need to be able to Measure (One of fav quotes is "If you can't measure it, you can't manage it!) so you can Adjust and refine your strategy and progressively make it better.

So, apply DMA to all the wonderful things you learnt at Virtual RE Bar Camp and hopefully you will be smarter and gain more business before you come back for VREBC version 3 in April!

To an amazing 2010,

Rajeev

Pat - Thanks for your comments. This VREBC like training will be the standard going forward and wish more PFR agents take advantage of it in 2010.

Rajeev, I could only do 4 sessions yesterday and by the fourth I was feeling like my brain couldn't assimilate much more. My sessions were: Stacey Harmon--Facebook Tools & Tricks, Mike Mueller--7 Secrets to Facebook Page Success--see you posted from it; Ross Hair--Advanced Facebook; and Brad Carroll--The Value of adding Posterous.. Came away with some ideas of things to implement. You are so right about the "Use it or Lose It". Started today by asking questions.
