Realty Tech Talk

The mother board in my Dell Inspiron 8600 recently failed. I'm thinking of just getting a new one, but don't want to buy or pay for a rocketship.

My basic uses are Internet, Microsoft Office suite (brochures/photos, etc.) and the internet based applications that we use here at pru. Would love to just get one with good processing speed, a decent amount of memory that doesn't come loaded with a bunch of applications that I will never use.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Hi Rajeev - I made a purchase this weekend that I think was a very good deal. Thought I would share it here because you were so helpful. My total cost for the laptop outlined below was $769. Dell waived my shipping and handling:
- I purchased the newest version of the Dell Inspiron (Call Dell for it. They're still pushing last year's model on their website.)
-Windows 7 (one of our desktop techs here at pru told me the "home premium" version is fine for use in the office.
-4GB of memory
-500 GB hard drive
-Intel core i5 processor (apparently the next generation since the core 2 duo)
-video, wireless and audio cards.
-integrated web cam
Can't wait until it gets here!

Go with 64-bit and not sure if the version of Windows 7 matters as much. But 64-bit may only be available with some...

Thanks Rajeev -
Does windows 7 need to be the professional version?
32 bit vs 64 bit? Does it matter?

I would go with a reputable brand with Intel Core 2 Duo processor, at least 4GB RAM and Window 7.
